Adidas

Adidas Outdoor Wandertag Rain Jacket

Throw out your other rain jackets! Cold, wet, rainy days won't get you down (or off the saddle) in the Adidas Outdoor Wandertag Jacket. This is a full rain jacket for cycling or hiking, but not running.

I kept a totally warm body temperature and was not sweaty by ride's end despite 40 miles cycling in cool wet conditions during the Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City this year.

The larger hood, super soft lining of the neck, longer back hem, Velcro adjustable wrist straps on slightly-longer-than-normal sleeves were all very welcome additions to keep comfortable from beginning to end. The hood fit over my head and under my helmet when it got just that chilly. Plus mesh lining means you can actually say good-bye to the slow, sticky boil you've had in other rain jackets. All it's salesy tag words: Climaproof, stormproof, breathable—they're no lie. Most rain jackets are useless and make you hot and wet from the inside out. This one is fantastic—and priced from $99 for the newer designs, it's a steal too.

Patagonia Hooudini Jacket

I can't say I've felt anything this lightweight and breathable before, kind of feeling like the ripstop nylon used to create a seriously durable kite. A very technical kite. Love this one it'll be one of the most essential pieces of gear in your gear closet.

One of the most affordable wind resistant and water resistant jackets you'll find. A rollaway hood, zippered stash pockets, and a bit of reflective detail. The gathered edges keep wind out. It's not the fanciest on this list, but it's worth a look if you're looking for a not-so-expensive option.

A FEW NEW SHOES

Men's & Women's Topo Athletics eVent Waterproof Trail Shoes

Take these to the wettest trail you can find, and there you'll find a lightweight, quickly draining sneaker by TopoAthletics. This brand wants to help you dominate the trails, and I can say that they perform really well on course. First the ergonomic big toe box is great for trail running and lows a more natural motion with your foot strike and push through. And the really really low drop (we're talking 0-5mm) helps do the same.

I loved how the sloe of these seemed to dig in just enough without getting choked up. And when it came to wetness, that's what this new line from Topo Athletics is all about. The Topo Athletics eVent Hydroventure techonolgy is a trifecta of draining, breathability, and absorption. although my feet we're definitely wet in a rain shower the water expelled quickly from the footbed
